My trip to Black Belt at 50... and beyond!

My life took a funny turn four years ago...into a dojo! I took my son to karate and found that I didn't like being a spectator. I'm now wearing a black belt. I'm at Steve Lavallees Karate School, Ft Lauderdale NTC dojo. I started this blog to help remember my kata (they're on video, look down the left column). I also share my thoughts on the dojo and beyond. Thanks for visiting, please leave a comment behind. About BBat50.

Creative Kumite

videoWhat can I say? The show was great: very quick-paced and high energy. Unlike previous shows which were not as tightly timed, this one went from start to finish in 1 hr, 20 minutes so it flew!
I added some personal drama. In the dress rehearsal when it was time for my solo, I totally froze up. I remember thinking: I can't be freezing up. I'm not even nervous. It's just that I can't remember what I'm supposed to do or even think of anything to do. But during the show, it went well. Maybe great! I'm a happy camper.

The first video is me, Jay, and Coach. The second video is Scott, Edgar, Pat, Agnes, and Kathy. All of them spectactacular black belts.

John,
Thank you for the nice comments. As you can see, both my boys have been involved in Karate for a long time. Their grandfather just started to help out his body and such. I have really enjoyed my blog because we have family all over the US who like to keep up on the kids and it is easier to update rather than emails over and over on a daily basis... I checked out your blog a few weeks ago when I saw mention that you were into Karate.. Again the boys thought that was too cool and it was just one more bonding thing between T4L, you and them... Good luck with all your stuff and again, than you for the nice comments.
