Kempo Kata Short Two

Short two is the first kata that doesn't follow the pattern of a series of inward blocks (like Appreciation Form, Short One, and Long One). It starts with a fun pair of blocks with chops and then introduces a new pose, the cat stance. Below is a phote of Jennifer showing what a cat stance should look like.

Taisho - Kempo Kata
Others - Kempo Kata, showing right fist (assume we always start by looking North or forward)

Taisho - Short Two
Others - Short Two, covering right fist with left hand, turning it forward and down, bowing
Step Left, into horsestance with hands in chamber

While stepping forward with the right leg so that you are looking forward but your body is sideways, Right inward block . Tu.

Keeping arm pointed forward, bend at the elbow putting your right hand on your chest and then chop forward with a Tia

(now do the same with the left).
Step forward with the left which spins you 180 but keep facing forward while you inward block with the left (pulling right into chamber). Tu
Keeping the left arm facing forward, bend the left hand back to the chest and then chop forward. Tia.

Pull back into cat stance with the weight on the right, the left leg slightly bent with only the toe touching and looking to your left. ehhhh
Step forward to the left into a softbow with a left outward block and a right punch. AEiiisa.

(now do the same to the right).
Pull back into cat stance with the weight on the left, the right leg slightly bent with only the toe touching and looking back to your right.ehhhh
Step forward to the right into a softbow with a right outward block and a left punch. AEiiisa.

Now we'll do a variation on it to the back of the room.
Pull back into cat stance with the weight on the right, the left leg slightly bent with only the toe touching and looking over your left shoulder towards the back of the room.ehhhh

Step 270 around the left into a softbow facing the backof the room with a left upward block and the right hand in chamber. Then, falling on your left knee pulling your left into chamber and a right punch. AEiiisa.

Now the same to the front of the room. ..
Pull back into cat stance with the weight on the left, the right leg slightly bent with only the toe touching and looking to the front of the room.ehhhh
Step forward to the right into a softbow with a right UPward block, then a left punch. AEiiisa.

stand up into an upwards X block (hands crossed over the head, legs shoulder width apart)
Double downware punch, one hand to each side of the waist
punch with the left to the right going into a hardbow
punch with the right to the left going into a hardbow,
punch forward
circle set left
show the right fist, cover with the left, bow

Hi - I just wanted to show my appreciation to Kathy for doing such a clean job on the katas - I watched her short one quite a few times, while learning to do it myself, for my orange belt test. Now I'm studying short two. Thanks Kathy! Respect, Dave H - ACK Institute of Martial Arts, Asheville, NC.

I'm curious - Alot of the time, when I try to view the short 2 kata, it says "video unavailable"... Anyone else getting this or maybe it's just my PC??

Doc, I just tested it and it worked great for me.

On the other hand, I have noticed that the original videos, which I put up using Blogger Video, are less user-friendly and reliable than those that I put on YouTube.

I'm slowly going through and putting up videos via YouTube. I keep thinking that one day, I'll grab a few instructors or other talented students, and in an hour in a quiet dojo, rerecord a lot of the videos to a much higher production value.

If this keeps being a problem, tell me and I'll redo it.
